How the Ontario tax is worked out
Ontario charges land transfer tax on a purchase anywhere in the province. The rates are graduated, so each slice of the price is taxed at its own rate. The tax is paid when the transfer is registered on closing. Ontario also says that a buyer in the City of Toronto may pay that city’s own municipal tax, which this calculator does not show.
